Meet Jens Kruskopf, a talented artist from the Redecor Art Team and one of the sharpest minds behind the Chinese Blossom season! Jens sat with us to share his creative process, inspirations, and cultural insights that bring this beautiful collection to life.
What inspired you when creating the Chinese Blossom season materials?
The design style has prominent colors and make more bold decisions by using the strong color palette was quite inspiring!
How did you balance traditional Chinese motifs with a modern aesthetic?
I started out by taking patterns and design queues from traditional Chinese design and then interpreting them with modern design characteristics, making most materials feel new whilst having a clear inspiration from the traditional designs.
Can you share some of the cultural symbolism embedded in the designs and materials of this season?
The Chinese Cherry blossom represents love and romance in Chinese culture and it tangents the meaning of Valentine’s Day that is celebrated during this season. It’s why it was incorporated into different elements during this season!
What was the most challenging part of designing this season?
The most challenging part was designing an authentic Chinese design that both looks beautiful and supports Chinese culture.
How do you hope players feel or what do you want them to experience when decorating with this season?
I hope the players feel a sense of calm whilst designing and hopefully learn more about Chinese culture and the meaning behind different symbols.
Were there any particular materials, colors, or textures you focused on to evoke the spirit of Chinese Blossom?
The intention was to create materials that had a handcrafted feel with natural materials and tones whilst adding strong colors to create contrast.
Do you have a favorite piece or detail within the season that you think players should pay special attention to?
I love the wall materials in this season, players should pay close attention to the intricate details found in the patterns. They might be surprised!
What advice would you give players who want to decorate authentically but creatively within this style?
Chinese design incorporates strong colors and patterns, I would encourage players to use colors such as red and gold. This is a great time to experiment with a bolder color palette than you’re used to.
What was your favorite part about creating this season?
Learning the different meanings behind Chinese design was definitely the most interesting part of creating this season! I’m glad I could take part in it.
