05th Apr 2023

Welcome to party week at Redecor! Ready to design a party that’s out of this world?

It's time to celebrate the start of our fresh new Season with a fabulous eco-friendly bash that'll have you saying "I can’t be-leaf I didn’t do this sooner!”

Planning parties is one of our favorite things to do, but admittedly, they aren’t always the most planet-friendly thing. That's why we're giving Mother Nature the love she deserves with our top 8 tips for throwing an incredible eco-friendly party!

From repurposing houseware to making your own drinks, we’re excited to share how you can host a party that’s both sustainable and stylish. So let’s get into easy ways you can spruce up your party game while being kind to our planet.

1. Send Digital Invitations

Say goodbye to paper invites and hello to a more sustainable option that’s also super convenient.
With everyone on their phones most of the day, digital invitations are a perfect way to ensure your invites are seen by all.
Plus, you can get creative and design your invitations with free resources available online to make them extra special and unique.

2. Ask for Eco-Friendly Gifts

Who says gifts can’t be good for the planet too? If it’s a birthday bash, baby shower, or another gift-giving occasion, encourage your guests to think outside the box and give something that won’t harm the environment.
How about a service, like a relaxing massage, or tickets to a fun event you can attend together? Or create a gift registry that lets your guests know what you need and how it can be used to its fullest potential.
By asking for eco-friendly gifts, you’re not only doing your part for the planet, but you’re also inspiring others to get involved in the green movement.

3. Go Green With Reusable Plates & Utensils

It may be tempting to reach for those disposable plastic dishes, but let’s be real, they’re just bad news for the planet. Take a look at your cupboards and see what you already have.
Mismatched plates and utensils can add a fun, eclectic vibe to your party, so don’t be afraid to mix and match! Real plates and silverware can elevate your party from “meh” to “magnificent”.

If you’re worried about washing up, you can always opt for recyclable disposable plates and utensils, but remember to read the fine print – some of them only break down in certain environments, like compost bins. Some neighborhoods have a shared compost bin, especially for such events, you can find out beforehand if there’s one near you!

4. Repurpose Decor Items You Already Have

Instead of hitting up the party store for plastic decorations that will end up in the trash, take a look around your home for items that can be repurposed. Got some plants, vases, or mason jars lying around? Use them as unique and eco-friendly centerpieces.
And don’t forget to add a pop of color with seasonal flowers or greenery.
You can also print out some art and put it in frames to create a personalized touch.
These frames are a great solution because when the party’s over, you can repurpose those frames with different art pieces to decorate your home.

5. Get Eco-Friendly With Food

When it comes to food, going eco-friendly can be a real problem. Instead of buying packaged snacks and drinks, consider making your own food for the party.
Not only will you reduce waste, but your guests will love the homemade touch.
If you’re not up for making all the food yourself, consider hosting a potluck.
This way, the party-goers can share their favorite homemade dishes and everyone can enjoy a variety of tasty treats.

6. Put Out a Recycling Bin

Setting up a recycling bin at your eco-friendly party is a great way to reduce waste and make a positive impact on the environment.
Make sure the bin is visible and easily accessible, and you can always have multiple bins for different types of materials.
To encourage your guests to use them, make an announcement at the start of the party and provide clear instructions on what can and cannot be recycled.

7. Make Your Own Drinks

Making your own drinks is a fun and eco-friendly way to serve beverages at your party.
Instead of buying bottled drinks that create unnecessary waste, make your own cocktails, lemonade, iced tea, or any other beverages you love. Serve your drinks in reusable carafes and jugs, and consider using repurposed jars to drink from for a unique and playful look.

8. Rent Instead of Buy

Renting party supplies is a fantastic option to reduce waste and minimize the environmental impact of your event. Plus, it can save you money in the long run. Instead of buying new items that you might only use once, renting allows you to use high-quality items that have been previously used and maintained.
So, be sure to check out renting items like lighting, seating, tablecloths, and decorations for your next eco-friendly soiree.

9. Have a Zero-Waste Bar

A bar is a great way to elevate your party! You can design it to be fun, like a tikki bar, or sophisticated with an industrial feel.
Instead of using disposable cups or straws, offer reusable glassware and metal straws. You can also use a compostable cocktail napkin.

10. Donate Party Leftovers

Instead of throwing away leftover food and decorations, donate them to a local charity or repurpose them for future parties.
Many communities have “waste nothing” groups exactly for such purposes!

So there you have it! By following these simple tips, you’ll be able to throw a party that your guests will remember, and that won’t hurt our planet. Don’t forget to join us at Redecor this week for an unforgettable eco-friendly party that will inspire you to create gorgeous, creative- and sustainable designs. We can’t wait to see your awesome creations. See you at the party, Redecorators!
